San Leone Farm is spread over 60 hectares of
vineyards, which reach from the bank of de Mincio River towards the morainic hills of
Custoza, in the province of Verona. It is a territory rich in
history, where the river is the thread for finds leading us to settlements dating back to the Bronze Age (1300
A.C.), to the Gallic necropolis and to the Romans.
A commercial exchange route in the Middle Age, this area was in particular demand and the scene of numerous
battles, passing from the Scaligera Seigniory to the Viscontea
Seigniory, from the dominion of Venice, in the 1405, to the memorable clashes between the French and Austrians in the Risorgimento
period, which ended with the battle of Custoza in 1866, and after which Valeggio and Veneto were annexed to
Italy.
The controlled designation of origin wines, Bardolino and Bianco di
Custoza, represent the heart of the Company's production, with over two thirds of the vineyeards and the Company is completed with its small productions of international
vines.
The new cellar of Salionze was finished in 2005, where the grapes of San Leone Farm are made into wine fully respecting their essential
qualities.
The cellar was designed so it can be visited at any time of the
year; and "ad hoc" route was created for visitors to allow them to view all of the phases of working in maximum safety by means of an "air" crossing of the wine-making and bottling
areas.
